The information contained in this document will help practitioners in selecting the most appropriate type, quantity, and configuration of lighting for nighttime work zones while not only meeting minimum industry-accepted lighting requirements for construction and maintenance work activities but also taking into account the need to minimize the negative impacts of glare on drivers. Practitioners can use this information to create a basic lighting scheme accomplishing the following objectives: to provide the appropriate level of lighting that allows construction work to be completed safely and effectively; reinforce both the intent of the traffic control plan as well as provide better guidance for drivers traveling through the work zone; and improve the overall safety of the workers and traveling public.
