Due to the temporary nature of work zones, a need exists for rumble strips that can be installed and removed quickly and efficiently while providing the same auditory and tactile warnings to drivers as permanent rumble strips. This guidance document provides practitioners with information on the use of temporary rumble strips to increase the safety of work zones. The objectives of this document are as follows: provide information on the use of temporary rumble strip types and configurations for work zones and their benefits and limitations; discuss when and how to implement temporary rumble strips in work zones; learn other key aspects to consider before and during implementation; and provide a list of reference materials.
