CABLE CLIP INSTALLATION
There is only one correct way to install cable clips to achieve maximum efficiency—up to 85%—from a prepared loop or thimble-eye termination. Improper installation can significantly reduce the capacity of the termination and create serious hazards for workers and others nearby.
PROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
Most cable clips consist of two parts: a saddle and a U-shaped bolt. Use only clips sized correctly for the wire rope diameter.
Determine the required number of clips, the amount of rope to turn back from the thimble, and the proper torque for tightening the nuts. Refer to manufacturer or industry tables for this information.
Use at least three cable clips when making any prepared loop or thimble-eye termination, especially for hoisting applications.
Install all clips with the saddle on the live end of the rope. This allows the live end to rest in the saddle and prevents it from being crushed by the U-bolt.
Install the U-bolt on the dead end of the rope, where crushing will not reduce the breaking strength of the hoist line.
