This is a course developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The entire class should take approximately 4.5 hours to complete. This course is intended to help local agencies and tribal government personnel consider bicyclists as part of their overall roadway infrastructure planning, design, construction, and maintenance activities. You will learn more about today’s bicyclists and opportunities to provide infrastructure that considers their mode choice and safety in a variety of situations: on the road, dedicated lanes, shared-use paths, interchanges, and intersections. You will also learn more about how construction and maintenance activities affect bicyclists and strategies for accommodating and considering them throughout those activities. This course is intended for a variety of positions within local agencies and tribal governments including transportation safety specialists, designers and engineers, planners, traffic safety and enforcement professionals, project managers, and more. Training includes: • Considering the Bicyclist • Getting to Know the Bicyclist • Providing Bicyclist-friendly Infrastructure • Integrating Bicyclists at Intersections, Interchanges, and Crossings • Considering Bicyclists During Construction, Maintenance, and Utility Activities • Maintaining Infrastructure for Bicyclists This course is hosted on an outside platform. If you have issues accessing the class, please contact FHWA. After completing the course, you will receive a certificate from FHWA. You will need to submit that certificate to us using the form contained within this class for credit. The course can be counted for Road Scholar II credit as a substitute for Pedestrian & Bicycle Transportation.
