This is a recording from 2026 of the WV LTAP's Proper Signs and Markings class. The entire class should take approximately 3 hours to complete. OVERVIEW This class provides an introduction to and explanation of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and includes sign design, location, and maintenance. Correct application of commonly used signs and markings is presented, along with examples of improper signing. Attendees will learn about the importance of inventories, sign maintenance, and the role maintenance and retroreflectivity plays in safety. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to: - Be familiar with the MUTCD and applicable standards - Understand fundamental principles for deciding on appropriate signs and markings, their correct placement, and proper mounting supports and heights - Recognize different categories of signs - Identify practices to reduce crashes and improve safety AUDIENCE This class should be of interest to anyone who is responsible for authorizing the installations of signs and markings or anyone who installs signs or markings, including supervisors, laborers, technicians, engineers, and elected/appointed officials.
