Pedestrians & Bicyclists: Designing for All Users

OVERVIEW
This class provides current information on the design, operations and maintenance of successful pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Participants will become equipped with information on designing, operating and maintaining safer, more comfortable, accessible and connected communities so walking is a viable transportation choice for everyone, including seniors, children and people with visual, mobility and other disabilities and that bicycling is a viable transportation choice for people of all ages and abilities.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this class, attendees should be able to understand:
Policies and practices that encourage non-motorized travel
Importance of connections
Characteristics of pedestrians and bicylists
How to design and maintain walkways, sidewalks, crosswalks, bicycle facilities, public spaces and multi-use trails
AUDIENCE
This class is geared toward engineers (design, maintenance, traffic, and construction), public works directors, street supervisors, and planning, landscape architecture, recreation and parks, and health-related professions.
